Toll Group, an Asia Pacific transport and logistics company, recently signed a five year contract to update its data storage hardware.
A period of acquisitions had resulted in disparate storage infrastructure which impacted legacy IT systems and application performance.
The deal with Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) will support the Group’s future growth plans. HDS has supplied a virtual storage platform, command suite, dynamic tiering and network attached storage platform.
According to Toll Group's global information systems head of infrastructure, development and implementation, David Hyland, the project was completed on budget and without major issues.
“The change was cost-neutral, but we achieved significant performance, scale and reliability improvements over previous systems. In one instance backup elapsed time reduced from 12 hours to four,” he said in a statement.
Toll Group is currently expanding the HDS services to its core networking infrastructure.
In May, HDS supplied a Hitachi Content Platform, bundled with Pixcelldata’s Collibio software, to virtual work environment service provider Connecting Spaces. The platform allows Australian pathologists to share gigabyte-sized image files and perform a diagnosis together using images from proprietary scanner systems.
