NBN Co adds 550k premises to construction plan

Issues quarterly NBN construction update

NBN Co has added 555,000 premises in Queensland, South Australia, NSW and Western Australia to its National Broadband Network construction plan.

In a quarterly update to its construction plan the government-owned company added homes and business Noosa in Queensland; Mt Gambier and Whyalla in South Australia; Bendigo and Docklands in Victoria; Bathurst in the NSW Central West and Castle Hill in Sydney’s North West; the township of Broome and the Perth suburbs of Hilton and Bassendean in Western Australia.

By September 2016 NBN Co plans to commence work on 110,000 premises in Queensland, 158,000 in NSW, 66,000 in South Australia, 147,000 in Victoria and 79,000 in WA.

The NBN Co construction plan covers more than 3.1 million homes and businesses where work is underway or planned to commence before the end of September 2016.

The rollout schedule does not include the HFC networks NBN Co is obtaining from Optus and Telstra and the Long Term Satellite Service.

In a statement NBN Co CEO Bill Morrow said that the construction update demonstrated the "continuing momentum of the nationwide delivery of fast broadband".

NBN Co yesterday announced the launch of its fibre to the building offering designed for apartment blocks.

As of the end of the 2014 calendar year, NBN Co had connected 40,716 premises to the NBN via satellite, 27,792 via fixed wireless and 253,883 on fibre (compared to 44,170, 6512 and 80,077, respectively, for the end of 2013).

Morrow said earlier this year that NBN Co was on track to achieve its 2020 goal of connecting 8 million premises to the NBN and achieving annual revenue in excess of $4 billion.
