New South Wales today unveiled its new single customer account for accessing state government services.
The system, dubbed MyServiceNSW, will be progressively rolled out across all NSW government services and transactions.
“Too often online services for different government agencies require different websites and multiple accounts,” finance minister Dominic Perrottet said in a statement.
“But good service means putting the customer at the centre of the experience.
“Our citizens should only have to ‘tell us once’, and that’s what we are aiming for with MyServiceNSW.”
In mid-2015 the state government foreshadowed the launch of a single digital identity for government services, with the expectation that it would go live later that year.
Currently MyServiceNSW supports some transactions from Roads and Maritime Services and the Office of State Revenue.
The federal government in 2013 launched its myGov platform, which allows users to sign on to a number of online services from agencies including Medicare, the Australian Taxation Office, Centrelink, the National Disability Insurance Scheme and the Department of Veterans' Affairs.
Last year, then communications minister Malcolm Turnbull indicated he would like to see the platform potentially extended to state and local government bodies.
NSW has rolled out its new payment platform for government services, Perrottet said.
Perrottet last year announced the new Service NSW payments platform, which includes support for Apple Pay and PayPal.
“Streamlining the back-end payments infrastructure is an important waste-cutting reform, but it also looks to the future, opening up the possibility of incorporating payment methods like PayPal, Apple Pay, MasterPass, and Visa Checkout,” Perrottet said.
The NSW government has also announced an updated version of the Service NSW smartphone app, which Perrottet said would allow drivers to use their smartphones to pay fines, track payments and review photos of traffic infringements.
