Linux expo planned for Sydney

The darling of the open source code movement, Linux, has hit the big time with a local exhibition and conference set for March next year.

Australian Exhibition Services (AES) said the Linux Open Source Expo and Conference would run in conjunction with IT 2000 and would include keynote speakers, plenary papers, workshops and case studies.

The exhibition will run from March 7 to 10 and the conference from March 8 to 9, organisers said. AES has assembled an advisory committee for the conference including representatives from SGI, Corel, Informix, Oracle and the Sydney Linux User Group.

AES said the events would promote commercial and government uses for the operating system and educate users.
