NBN Brunswick
Brunswick, a suburb of Melbourne, was originally settled by the Aboriginal Wurundjeri people, and settled by European populations in the 1830s. Located six kilometres north of the Melbourne CBD and part of the City of Moreland, it is designated as part of the Melbourne 2030 Metropolitan Strategy.
Melbourne is the second largest Australian city, and known as the country’s cultural capital.
The suburb of Brunswick, in Melbourne, was chosen as one of five mainland trial sites for the National Broadband Network.
The government-owned NBN Co will roll-out and operate fibre to 2600 premises in Brunswick as one of the five mainland trial sites for the National Broadband Network.
NBN Co has contracted seven construction companies to create design blueprints for the construction of these sites. Construction began in July 2010 with the first services expected to go live in the first quarter of 2011.
On 8 July 2010, NBN Co announced that the Brunswick area would be expanded to a further 3,000 properties as part of the second release sites. Construction is set to begin in the second quarter of 2011.
