Yooralla CIO resigns

Victorian disability services provider seeks new IT head

Disability services provider Yooralla is on the hunt for a new chief information officer the resignation of the organisation’s current IT chief, Michael Estcourt.

Estcourt joined Yooralla in January 2013, coming to the organisation from IT roles in the tertiary education sector. He was appointed CIO in May 2013.

Estcourt has resigned for personal reasons, Yooralla said. The CIO will finish up at the organisation in late October.

In a statement Yooralla paid tribute to the CIO’s work over the years, particularly his work leading the organisation’s Business Technology Reform Program (BTRP) as part of preparing for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

(The government’s NDIS systems have recently been in the spotlight after high-profile failures.)

“Michael has been collaborative in his approach and he has been a valuable member of the Executive team,” a statement from the Victoria-based organisation said.

“We are grateful for Michael's substantial contribution and wish him all the very best for the future.”

The organisation cited a number of projects led by Estcourt, including a wireless networking rollout at its headquarters, a controlled documents system, implementing a new intranet and a number of tech upgrades.

“Importantly, the introduction of a reporting system to manage incidents, feedback and compliance has resulted in significantly better processes for the reporting and monitoring of customer matters,” Yooralla said.

The organisation was rocked in 2014 by abuse allegations.

A 2015 review commissioned by the Department of Human Services in the wake of the scandal found that the organisation had put in place “a sophisticated risk management system, with appropriate oversight and active management of risks evident throughout all levels of the organisation.”

The review concluded that the organisation “has implemented a significant range of systems and processes, and management and staff practices that are contributing towards Yooralla creating a safe and quality environment for its customers, a professionalised work environment, and an organisation that is responsive to risk and the ongoing need for change and development”.

Yooralla is currently accepting applications for the CIO role.
